Wildcats come up short against No. 13 Norwich, 3-2

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Sophomore netminder Jacob Perrin made 32 saves in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 3-2 loss to No. 13 Norwich University Friday night in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's ice hockey action at the New England Sports Village.

Juniors Hayden Haldane and Brendan Shandley each scored their first goals of the season for the Wildcats (0-3-0, 0-1-0 NEHC), who were 2:13 away from overtime against the nationally-ranked Cadets. Despite being outshot 35-20 on the evening, JWU killed off all six Norwich PP opportunities.

Haldane opened the scoring with 52 seconds remaining in the first when he snapped a shot from past Norwich keeper Drennan Atherton from just above the crease. Senior Aaron Garrison and junior Conner Lindsoe recorded assists on the play for JWU. Norwich answered with a pair of goals in the second to move in front 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The Wildcats tied the game at two on a great individual effort by Shandley. He collected the puck from senior Breck Crawford in his own end, raced down the right wing boards and into the offensive zone. Shandley got off a shot from the circle that was turned aside, however the puck appeared to carrom into the net off a Norwich skater, knotting the score at two.

Late in the third, Norwich sophomore Clark Kerner threw a wrist shot at the net that ricochet up and over Perrin for the game-winner.
