ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Freshman Brendan Doyle scored a pair of goals in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 4-3 loss to Elmira College Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's action at the New England Sports Village.
Junior Brendan Shandley added a goal and an assist for the Wildcats (0-8-0, 0-6-0 NEHC), who received 34 saves from sophomore netminder Jacob Perrin. Juniors Noel Parker, Hayden Haldane, and Conner Lindsoe each collected an assist for JWU.
Shandley opened the scoring 10:02 into the contest when he gathered his own rebound and potted his second goal of the season. Later, trailing 2-1 in the second, Doyle scored a highlight reel goal as he took his defenseman for a walk before tucking a backhand shot through the five-hole at 8:04.
Less than one minute into the third, Doyle one-timed a pass from Shandley at the right post to cut the Wildcats deficit to one at 4-3. The Soaring Eagles outshot the home team 12-5 in the third and closed the contest with a 38-26 edge in that category.
