PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Austin Sweeney broke a scoreless tie with his fourth goal of the season in the 84th minute to propel the Johnson & Wales (RI) University men's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 win over Norwich University Saturday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
The win stretches the Wildcats home unbeaten streak to 32 matches (29-0-3), dating back to 2019. In the process, they improved to 9-1-2 on the season and 6-0-1 in conference play. Senior Jacob Friedman turned aside three shots to move to 8-1-2 on the season.
The Cadets (7-3-1, 6-2-0 GNAC) outshot the Wildcats 8-4 in a first half which ended in a scoreless tie. Late in the second half, Sweeney came in from the right side of the field and let go of a shot that tipped off the Norwich keeper's hand and into the far side of the net.
