PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University men's soccer team secured a 4-0 win over Lasell College Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Graduate student Ricky Africo, senior Austin Sweeney, and sophomore Brian Miller each scored for the Wildcats, who pushed their win streak to five and improved to 8-1-2 on the season (4-0-1 GNAC). JWU outshot the Lasers (2-6-3, 1-3-3 GNAC) by a 25-5 margin as graduate student Brandon Coder picked up his first shutout since joining the Providence campus squad.
Following a scoreless first half, the Wildcats were gifted their first goal when senior Alexander Pane sent a corner kick into the box that was knocked in by a Lasell student-athlete. Less than five minutes later, Africo converted a pass from sophomore Conner Elliott into his second marker of 2022.
A pair of quick passes from senior Esteban Osorio and Africo set up Miller for his team-leading fifth goal at 60:55 before Sweeney capped the scoring following a feed from midfield from sophomore Tony Gutierrez.
