PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Graduate student Jillian Miele picked up a hat trick in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 5-0 win over Lasell University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Senior Margaret Johnson added a pair of goals as the Wildcats improved to 15-0 on the season and 10-0 in the GNAC. Both Miele and Johnson recorded an assist on the afternoon as JWU outshot the Lasers 28-6.
Miele scored the only goal the Wildcats would need 3:26 into the match when Johnson broke down the right side and fed Miele for her 20th marker of the season. Johnson doubled the home team's lead with seven seconds remaining in the first half when she poked in a shot from Miele.
Miele netted her second of the day 3:35 into the second half to make it 3-0 before Johnson gathered a loose ball and registered her 11th goal. Miele capped the scoring with a penalty stroke goal in the fourth.
Prior to the contest, the Wildcats honored their senior class: Johnson, Hailey Schneider, Mackenzie Wolf, and Madison Flaxington.
