Wildcats score 5-0 win over Pride

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Mei Tobin picked up a goal and an assist in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 5-0 win over Regis (MA) College Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Jillian Miele picked up four points on a goal and two assists for the Wildcats, who improved to 13-0 on the season (8-0 GNAC). Junior Katie Sloan and freshman Zofia Bangs also found the back of the net for JWU, which outshot the Pride 38-1 and held a 21-1 edge in penalty corners.

Tobin scored the only goal the Wildcats would need early in the second quarter when she knocked in a rebound of a shot from senior Margaret Johnson that struck the right post. Shepherd's sixth goal of the season with 32 seconds remaining in the half doubled the JWU lead.

In the second half, Miele took a pass from junior Mackenzie Wolf and buried a shot inside the left post to push the JWU lead to 3-0. Sloan then converted a penalty corner with assists going to Miele and sophomore Haley Budenas to make it 4-0 before Bangs capped the scoring with a redirect of a shot from Tobin.

Senior Madison Flaxington did not record a save in moving to 13-0 on the season.
