Miele scores twice in 3-1 win over Monks

STANDISH, Maine – Graduate student Jillian Miele scored a pair of goals in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 3-1 win at St. Josephs' (ME) Saturday morning in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at the SJC Athletic Complex.

Freshman Zofia Bangs also scored for the Wildcats, who remained perfect on the season at 9-0 (4-0 GNAC). JWU outshot the Monks (7-4, 4-1 GNAC) by a 14-8 margin and rallied from a 1-0 second-quarter deficit to extend their win streak over STJ to three.

Miele's 10th goal of the season off a pass from junior Kaitlyn Freeman 10 minutes into the second quarter tied the game at one. Thirty seconds into the second half, the 2021 All-America selection potted her second goal of the contest to give JWU a 2-1 lead. Bangs' fifth marker of the season with less than four minutes remaining in regulation solidified the win. Senior Margaret Johnson was credited with an assist on the play.

Senior Madison Flaxington recorded four saves to move to 9-0 on the season for head coach Lisa Lopes.
