Five Second Half Goals Launches Men's Soccer Past Anna Maria

The Johnson & Wales Men's Soccer team took down the AMCATS of Anna Maria on Wednesday night, scoring five goals in the second half after trailing 1-0 after the first half.  Johnson & Wales improved to 6-1-0 (3-1-0 GNAC) while the AMCATS fell to 1-7-1 (1-3-0 GNAC).

Anna Maria opened the scoring early in the first half.  Nick Lawrence found the back of the net in the secenth minute off of a throw in from Hezekiah Adeyeye.  The AMCATS held their lead for the remainder of the first half.

Johnson & Wales knotted the score in the 53rd minute through a goal from Austin Sweeney (Nutley, N.J.), who scored on a free kick from Conner Elliott (Mansfield, Mass.).  Sweeney added a second goal just 11 minutes later on a breakaway that was assisted by Ricky Africo (North Providence, R.I.).  Sweeney continued his strong performance in the second half by assisting the third goal for the Wildcats to JP Rioux (Stony Point, N.Y.) in the 84th minute.  The Wildcats added two more goals in the final six minutes of play, one from Elliot who was assited by Rioux.  The final goal was scored by the original duo, with Sweeney completing his hat-trick on a pass from Elliot.

The Wildcats get back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Saint Joseph's (Me.) at 4:30pm.
