The Johnson & Wales men's soccer team scored two goals in the final ten minutes of the game to earn a victory against Mitchell on Monday night. The Wildcats improved to 5-0 on the season while the Mariners fell to 0-5-1.
Johnson and Wales fell behind midway in the first half with a goal from Mason Rubino. Rubino was played on a through pass over the top that fell to him from Eduardo Tineo. Rubino toe poked past the Johnson & Wales keeper to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead, which they held into the halftime break. Johnson & Wales had opportunities inside the box in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Wildcats applied pressure throughout the second half, pushing for the game tying goal. With nine minutes remaining, Kevin Reilly (Norwood, N.J.) sent in a cross that skipped through the box and nestled into the back corner of the net, knotting the game at one. Just four minutes later, JP Rioux (Stony Point, N.Y.) latched onto an Alexander Pane (Danbury, Conn.) cross and headed into the near post side netting, giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead which they saw to the end of the game.
The Wildcats get back in action on Friday when they travel to take on Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tilt at 7:00pm.
