Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Pounces For Fourth Straight Victory

The Johnson & Wales Wildcats Men's Soccer team played to a 5-2 victory over Regis College on Friday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tilt.  The Wildcats improved to 4-0 (2-0 GNAC) while the Pride fell to 3-1 (1-1 GNAC).

Johnson & Wales struck first in the 21st minute, with JP Rioux (Stony Point, N.Y.) breaking the deadlock.  The senior was able to score off a corner kick from Ricky Africo (North Providence, R.I.), giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  In the 29th minute, the wildcats added another goal off a corner kick, this time with Chuckie Tenbusch (Williamsbug, Va.) finding the back of the net off of the corner from Nick Gutekunst (East Northport, N.Y.), giving Johnson & Wales a two-goal lead.

In the 38th minute, the Wildcats struck for a third time in the first half, this time through Kevin Reilly (Norwood, N.J.), extending their lead to three, which they held for close to the remainder of the first half.  Regis got on the board with 20 seconds remaining in the first frame through an own goal by the Wildcats, cutting the lead to 3-1.

With the first 15 minutes coming to a close in the second half, the Wildcats restored their three-goal advantage through Rioux's second goal.  Regis pulled one back 10 minutes later through Alfred Bresnahan, but the Wildcats scored just six minutes later to bring the score to 5-2, the final score of the game. Johnson & Wales outshot Regis 13-5 to set tout the victory.

The Wildcats get back in action on Monday when they welcome Mitchell College to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex at 7:00pm.  Regis plays vs MIT on Monday at 4:00pm.
