Of Note:
The first half saw no scoring as both squads battled thru the midfield for much of the opening 45 minutes with JWU holding a 6-4 advantage in shots. The Wildcats and Bears came out with a spark in the second half with a bit more pressure put on both sides of the ball. That pressure led to a Wildcat goal when Gutekunst chipped a bouncing ball over to junior Gianni Lisa who dribbled toward the corner and set a cross in front that Gutekunst buried for the 1-0 advantage. The Bears tied the match in the 70th minute when a second chance opportunity for David Nelson hit the post and off the back of the outstretched Wildcat goalkeeper Jacob Friedman.
With the match square at 1-1, junior Esteban Osorio found a deflection just outside the 18 that he blasted on frame and squeezed inside the near post to put the Wildcats up 2-1 with less than four minutes to play. Gutekunst capped off the scoring on a penalty kick courtesy of some excellent dribbling into the box by junior Austin Sweeney who was then taken down.
JWU outshot the Bears 14-10 while earning eight corners to the Bears three.
