Softball Falls To Brandeis Twice On The Road

WALTHAM, Mass. - The JWU softball team traveled up to Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon for a pair of non-conference contests against the undefeated Judges. The Wildcats suffered a 5-2 setback in game one before a five inning, 12-1 loss in the latter half of the doubleheader.

Records:

JWU: 15-6

Brandeis: 12-0

Statistics:

Hailey Erickson: 2-for-3, HR, 2B, 2 RBI (Gm 1)

Jill Pulek: 2-for-3, RBI (Gm 2)

Jenna Conroy: 1-for-3 (Gm 1)

Of Note:

In the opener, the Wildcats fell behind 5-0 in the first five innings and surrendered three straight solo homeruns including two in the 3rd and one in the 5th. Hailey Erickson launched her first career homerun with one out and one runner on in the 7th to bring the Wildcats within three. JWU would be unable to produce from there as they fell 5-2. Erickson went 2-for-3 and now has four multi-hit games on the season and two in her past two starts.

To close out the day, the visitors looked to turn things around with an RBI single from Jill Pulek in the top half of the first which scored Julia Huzi and gave JWU a 1-0 advantage. Brandeis took over from there with a six-run first before tacking on six more in the following two innings to close out game two, 12-1.

Pulek has now hit safely in all but three games on the season including 12 of her last 13. She has eight multi-hit games in that stretch in which seven have gone for extra bases while her season batting average sits at .574, nearly 100 points better than the second ranked player in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Up Next:

The Wildcats conference double dip against Dean on Sunday has been postponed due to weather and JWU will now wait until Thursday to host Albertus Magnus at 4 p.m. in a GNAC doubleheader.
