Softball Splits With Emmanuel To Close Regular Season

BOSTON, Mass. - The Johnson & Wales softball team closed out the 2021 regular season with a GNAC doubleheader on the road against Emmanuel. The Wildcats took a five inning win in game one, 17-1, and fell to the Saints in game two, 10-5.

 

Records:

JWU: 16-7. 8-4 GNAC

Emmanuel: 16-4, 9-1 GNAC

 

Statistics:

Jill Pulek: 4-for-5, 2 HR, 2 2B, 6 RBI, 3 R (Gm 1)

Devin Scales: 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Olivia DiGiacomo: 3-for-3, 2B (Gm 2)

 

Of Note:

After two quick outs in the top of the 1st, Jill Pulek, Devin Scales and Kaelani Gamble hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns for the Wildcats to give them the early 3-0 lead. In the 2nd, Pulek and Gamble each launched two-run homeruns to push the lead to 7-1. A two run 3rd lead to an eight run 5th that gave JWU the 17-1 advantage before Livia Feole was able to strike out back-to-back batters in the bottom half of the 5th to shut the door completely. 

In game two, Emmanuel raced out to the 4-0 lead in the 1st inning before the Wildcats were able to cut into the deficit with a pair of runs off of the bat of Scales that made the score 4-2. In the top of the 4th, JWU tacked on three runs to take a 5-4 lead. It was shortlived as the Saints grabbed a pair in the bottom of the 4th and four more in the 5th to earn the 10-5 victory.

 

Up Next:

The Wildcats will wait to see where they are seeded for the 2021 GNAC Championships which will begin on Tuesday, May 4.
