Softball Gets Back In Win Column With Sweep

NEWTON, Mass. - Johnson & Wales combined for 23 hits in back-to-back wins over Lasell on Wednesday afternoon. JWU topped the Lasers 13-3 in game one and 4-3 in the nightcap to remain undefeated in conference play this season.

JWU: 14-1, 6-0 GNAC

Lasell: 8-4, 2-4 GNAC

Jill Pulek: 4-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI, 4 R (Gm 1)

Julia Huzi: 3-for-4, 3 1B, 2 SB, RBI (Gm 2)

Devin Scales: 2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, R (Gm 1)

 

Of Note:

In the opener, Jill Pulek knocked in three runs in the first four innings to help the visiting Wildcats jump out to a 5-1 advantage. Five other players helped produce runs including Talia Smaller, who had a two-run single in the 6th, and Devin Scales, who roped a two-run double in the five run 7th. Summer Ramundo and Livia Feole combined efforts for the victory in the circle for the Wildcats, allowing three runs and striking out four Lasers.

Lasell held a 1-0 advantage thru the first four innings of game number two before senior Shari Minalga knocked in the game-tying run on a single to left in the 5th. In the 6th, Hailey Erickson knocked in a pair of runs and scored what would prove to be the game-winning run for JWU thanks to an RBI single by Julia Huzi. Sage Borkowski earned her fifth win of the year allowing just one earned run while Ramundo collected her first career save for the Wildcats in the 4-3 win.

JWU will host Albertus Magnus on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex Softball Field.
