Softball Sweeps Lasell To Stay Undefeated

PROVIDENCE –  The Wildcats softball team claimed a pair of victories over Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Lasell at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon. JWU earned the 5-2 win in the opener and won a five inning affair in the nightcap, 16-7, to stay undefeated on the season.

 

Records:

JWU: 12-0, 4-0

Lasell: 8-2, 2-2

Jill Pulek: 2-for-4, 2 R, RBI (Gm 1)

Summer Ramundo: 5 IP, 9 K, 2 H (Gm 1)

Julia Huzi: 3-for-4, HR, 4 RBI, 4 R (Gm 2)

 

Of Note:

JWU jumped out the early lead with a three run 1st inning that included a single by Jill Pulek knocking in her team-leading 13th RBI of the season. The Wildcats tacked on a pair of runs in the 5th inning to push the lead to 5-0 thru five full innings. Calimesa, California native Hailey Erickson connected on a run-scoring groundout that scored pinch runner Jaelynn Accola that pushed the lead to four before Pulek scored to end the scoring for the home team. Lasell grabbed a pair of runs in the 6th until Sage Borkowski closed the door in the 7th earning her third save of the season.

In the second matchup of the day, the Wildcats led the game off with Julia Huzi's first career homerun and went on to score nine more runs for a 10-0 lead. The visitor's cut the deficit in half with a five-run 2nd inning before tacking on another run in the 3rd to bring the score to 10-6. JWU saw hits from Kaelanie Gamble and Talia Smaller to help push the lead to 14-6 in the home half of the 3rd inning. Huzi and senior Shari Minalga scored in the 4th before Borkowski surrendered her first run of the contest in the 5th bringing the score to a final of 16-7. 

Huzi combined for five hits on the day while Pulek connected on 4-of-6 to help push the Wildcats to the two wins. Sage Borkowski picked up her third save of the year in the opener and is now 4-0 in the circle on the season, securing the victory in game two. 

 

Up Next:

The Wildcats and Lasers will square off for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 14 at Lasell beginning at 3 p.m. after JWU travels across the city to take on D1 Brown University on Sunday, April 11.
