PROVIDENCE - It was April 21, 2018 when Jennifer Corona threw the most recent no-hitter in Wildcat softball history. Today, first-year Sage Borkowski threw five innings of hitless ball while striking out two and walking two in a game two win over visiting Curry College. JWU topped the Colonels 11-3 in six innings in the opener and came away with a 9-0, five inning victory behind Borkowski for the backend of the doubleheader.

Of Note:
In game one, Summer Ramundo stole the show going 4-for-4 with two homeruns, a double and three RBI in the win. She also struck out five in the pitching circle, surrendering just five hits and allowing no earned runs in four innings pitched. Junior Jill Pulek connected on her first homerun of the season to open up the scoring for JWU. Senior outfielder Olivia DiGiacomo roped a two-run single in the third to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead. The hosts took a 9-3 lead into the bottom of the 6th where Jaelynn Accola doubled in a run and Shari Minalga closed things out with an RBI single to give JWU the 11-3 victory.
Borkowski had plenty of run support in the quick moving second game courtesy of four homeruns. Talia Smaller launched her first career homerun in the fourth to extend the Wildcat lead to 2-0. Sophomore Meaghan Gurska sent her second homerun of the season out before Kaelanie Gamble belted a no-doubter deep to left to give JWU a 6-0 lead after four innings. Sophomore Jessica Rynne ended the game in the fifth with a three-run shot, her first career homerun. Borkowski is the first ever first-year player to throw a no-hitter for Johnson & Wales and the second no-hitter in program history.

JWU will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Bristol to take on Roger Williams University on Wednesday afternoon. The doubleheader is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
