The Johnson & Wales Men's Soccer Team defeated the Lasers of Lasell University on Saturday afternoon 2-0, with both goals coming from senior JP Rioux (Stony Point, N.Y.) Johnson & Wales improved to 9-3 (6-2 GNAC) while the Lasers fell to 2-10-1 (1-6-1 GNAC).
The first goal of the game came in the 25th minute as Rioux took a penantly shot right down the middle and past the Lasers goalkeeper, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
Rioux's second goal came in the 62nd minute as he chipped the goalkeeper on an over the top pass from Danny Peixinho (Warwick, R.I.). The Wildcats held the 2-0 lead throughout the remainder of the game taking the victory.
Johnson & Wales controlled the tempo of the game, earning a 20-3 advantage in shots and 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Jacob Friedman (Woodland Hills, Calif.) earned the shut out and did not face a shot on target.
The Wildcats get back in action on Monday afternoon when they welcome the Roger Williams Hawks to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex for a 4:00pm kick off.
