The Johnson & Wales Wildcats defeated the Elms Blazers on Sunday afternoon, with Senior JP Rioux (Stony Point, N.Y.) scoring the game winning goal on Senior day. The Wildcats improved to 8-3 (5-2 GNAC) while the Blazers dropped to 5-8 (4-6 GNAC).
After a scoreless first half that saw both teams create chances they were unable to convert. Five minutes into the second half, the Wildcats were able to break the deadlock through Rioux, who's left footed shot found the back of the net after a cross from Nick Gutekunst (East Northport, N.Y.).
The Wildcats added one more goal with just under ten minutes remaining. Brian Miller (Ramsey, N.J.) sent a low cross that made it through the defense and found Gianni Lisa (Emerson, N.J.) at the back post, who's first time shot found the back of the net to give Johnson & Wales a two-goal advantage. The Wildcats saw out the last nine minutes of the game to earn the 2-0 victory.
Johnson & Wales gets back in action on WEdnesday when they welcome Albertus Magnus to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex for a 7:00pm kickoff.
