Wildcats Sweep the Weekend at Golden Flyer Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –  It was a clean sweep of the weekend for the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team at the Golden Flyer Invitational, hosted by Nazareth College. JWU rallied to beat Geneva, 3-2 (21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13) then stopped Medaille, 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18).

Of Note:
JWU went on a three-point run to take a 23-20 lead in the fourth set. Paul Brodeur and Jack Pincince sandwiched kills around a Josh Pitzer-Ben Naouai block.

The fifth set got off to a bleak start as the Wildcats committed five errors to give the Golden Tornados an 8-2 advantage. JWU worked its way back into the game thanks to its defense as the Wildcats had four blocks the rest of the set including a rejection by Sanjae Holloway and Pitzer on match-point.

Most of the JWU offense ran through outside hitters Pincince and Holloway who had 28 and 24 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Ben Sandt dished out a career-high 61 assists and added 10 digs.

JWU posted 15 blocks with Pitzer factoring into eight of them and Zach Turner adding six rejections.

The Mavericks tied set one, 18-18, but Pincince answered with a kill then a Sandt ace gave the Wildcats a lead they would not relinquish.

Notching his third double-double of the weekend was Pincince with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Posting a season-high 15 kills was the rookie Naouai.

Johnson & Wales hit .254 while limiting Medaille to .062. JWU also posted 56 digs and 12 blocks.

Up Next:
The Wildcats get back into GNAC play on Tuesday when it travels to Regis for a 6 p.m. contest.
