Men's Volleyball Sweeps Alvernia 3-0

PROVIDENCE, RI –   Continuing the momentum from Friday night, the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team was sharp on day two of the JWU Tip-Off Tournament. The Wildcats made quick work of Alvernia with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) defeat on Saturday.

Of Note:
A JWU service error pulled the Golden Wolves to 14-10 in the first set, but Johnson & Wales opened a 21-12 margin thanks to three Donovan Kelley kills. An 11-4 run, that was aided by two Josh Pitzer kills, broke open the second set for the Wildcats. Back-to-back blocks in the third set pushed the JWU lead to 8-3 as the hosts completed the sweep.

Rookie setter Ben Sandt had the Johnson & Wales offense in sync as the Wildcats hit .368. Sandt handed out 28 assists.

The offense was well distributed as four players had six or more kills, topped by Sanjae Holloway's match-high nine winners.

JWU had an 8-1 advantage in blocks with Pitzer producing four rejections. The Wildcats also had a 34-24 margin in digs that limited Alvernia to a .108 hitting percentage.
