Men's Volleyball Splits with Mustangs and Leopards

BOSTON – The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team split a pair of conference matches on Saturday. JWU ran its winning streak to nine games with a 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-14, 25-18) over Mount Ida, but were defeated 3-0 by defending league champion Wentworth, 3-0 (17-25, 21-25, 21-25).

Cameron Ponce: 9 kills, 14 assists, 4 blocks vs. IDA; 12 assists, 10 digs vs. WIT
Sanjae Holloway: 6 kills, 8 digs vs. WIT

Of Note:
The nine-straight wins are a school record. The 2000 edition started the year by winning its first eight contests.

Johnson & Wales made quick work of Mount Ida in the first game. JWU's defense was the key as the Wildcats limited the Mustangs to a -.115 hitting percentage. The Wildcats had seven blocks, including four from setter Cameron Ponce.

Ponce was on the verge of his second triple-double of the week as he added a team-best nine kills to go along with 13 assists. Kanila Chang and Matthew McCarthy were next with five kills each.

Wentworth turned the defensive tables on the Wildcats, limiting Johnson & Wales to a .060 hitting percentage that's its lowest in a month. The Leopards had 42 digs and benefited from 22 JWU hitting errors.

Sophomores Sanjae Holloway and Nick Bitetto had a team-high six kills. Ponce was close behind with five winners but did record a 12-assists, 10-dig double-double.
