JWU Men's Volleyball Drops GNAC Opener at #15 Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. – Sandwiched around its two toughest tournaments of the year, the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team started GNAC action on Tuesday at Lasell. The Wildcats fought hard but lost a 3-1 (13-25, 18-25, 25-23, 16-25) decision to the 15th-ranked Lasers.

Lasell: 10-1, 1-0 GNAC

Kanila Chang (JWU): 9 kills, 2 blocks
Cameron Ponce (JWU): 24 assists, 5 digs, 3 blocks
Zach Turner (JWU): 4 kills, 4 blocks

Of Note:  
After dropping the first two sets, the Wildcats found themselves down 12-7 in the third set. Five-straight Lasell errors tied the match at 12-12. Knotted at 22-22, a Kyle Allen-Morabito (Manorville, NY) kill and two LC errors pushed the match to the fourth set.  

Leading the Wildcats' offensive attack was outside hitter Kanila Chang (Orlando, Fla.) with nine kills. Freshman Zach Turner (Coventry, RI) produced a team-high four kills while libero Alex Seda (San Juan, PR) notched 11 digs. Setter Cameron Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) had 24 assists and five digs.

The Lasers had a .236-.010 hitting advantage as well as 41-26 lead in digs. Both teams produced eight blocks.
