Box Score Providence, RI –Hollywood couldn't have written the script any better. Johnson & Wales University senior Kyle Eva set the school's all-time blocks record on senior night. The Wildcats sent the four seniors on the team out with a victory as they downed Mount Ida College 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-14) on Tuesday.
Mount Ida: 6-21, 1-10 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 14-13, 6-5 GNAC
JWU Statistical Leaders:
Kyle Eva: 7 Kills, 8 Digs, 4 Blocks

Of Note:
Needing four blocks to set the record, Eva (Charlestown, RI) got three in the final set. He combined with fellow senior Raheem Malone (St. Thomas, USVI) to reject Peter Griffenkranz's attack to break the record. Eva's 310 total blocks eclipses Dan Struebing's record of 309, set from 2011-14. Eva had a good all-around night, posting team highs of seven kills and eight digs.
Johnson & Wales got out to a fast start and never looked back. Setter Cameron Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) staked JWU to a 6-0 lead from the service line to start the match. Eva finished the set by serving nine-straight points. An Eva kill in the second set pushed JWU's lead to 10 points, 21-11, for the first time in that set. In the final stanza, a Mustangs' service in the error gave JWU a 13-4 lead and it grew to as many as 11, 19-8, on another MIC error.
While no player reached double-digit kills for JWU, four players had six or more. Tying Eva for the team-lead was freshman Alex Seda (San Juan, PR). One back were the Malone twins with six each. Raheem added six assists, three aces and five digs. Rakeem also had three aces as well as two blocks.
Griffenkranz and James Ames led the Mustangs' offense with five kills each. Griffenkranz notched a match-high nine digs and added a block.
