Box Score Senior Don Dias (Scituate, R.I.) buried 11 kills and two aces as the men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-20) win over Albertus Magnus in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Tuesday night. Dias and classmates J.J. Bessette (Coventry, R.I.), Chris Espinola (Derry, N.H.) and Andrew Lunn (Norwell, Mass.) were recognized prior to the match for their dedication over the years.
In the opening set, the teams battled back and forth early before the Wildcats rattled off ten straight points, capped off by a Dias service ace, to take an 18-7 advantage. JWU closed out set number one with three straight points assuring the 25-15 win. Set number two was much of the same as the Wildcats used a few rallies that resulted in the 25-21 victory before finishing the night off with the 25-20 win in the third and final set.
With the victory Johnson & Wales improves to 19-8 overall and 7-4 in the GNAC while Albertus Magnus falls to 3-13 overall and 2-10 in conference action. JWU will return to action Thursday, April 2nd when they travel to Rivier for a key GNAC matchup starting at 7:00 p.m.
