Box Score 2 The men's volleyball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-math at Rivier on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats dropped a 3-0 (12-25, 20-25, 17-25) decision against second-ranked host Rivier while posting a 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 25-20) victory against Lasell.
In the win over Lasell, Johnson & Wales was led by senior Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) with 16 kills and eight digs while sophomore Ryan Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) notched a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs in the victory. Junior J.J. Bessette (Coventry, R.I.) also had a double-double with 29 set assists and 13 digs for the Wildcats. Jeff Vautrin had 11 kills and seven digs for Lasell while Andrew Glenn notched 29 set assists in the loss for the Lasers.
Sophomore Kyle Eva (Chariho, R.I.) paced JWU in the loss to Rivier, tallying seven kills and two digs while Ryan Kennedy notched seven kills and six digs in the loss for the Wildcats. Bessette had 22 set assists in the setback. Chris Markuson tallied six kills for Rivier while Tyler Blank notched 27 set assists in the victory for the Raiders.
With the split Johnson & Wales is now 15-10 on the season and 7-5 in the GNAC. JWU will return to action on Monday, March 31st when they travel to Anna Maria for a GNAC contest at 7:00 p.m.
