Box Score 2 The men's volleyball squad split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match with Emerson and Wentworth at Emerson on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats opened the day with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19) victory against host Emerson before dropping a 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 14-25, 22-25) decision against Wentworth.
In the opener against Emerson, Johnson & Wales was led by senior Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) with 14 kills, eight digs and two blocks while sophomore Ryan Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) notched 11 kills and three service aces. Senior Alex Viera (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tallied 37 set assists and seven digs in the win for the Wildcats. Emerson was led by Jackson Wiley with 14 kills and four digs while Brendan McGonigle had 38 set assists in the loss for the Lions.
The match with Wentworth saw Shawn Kennedy record a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs while Ryan Kennedy notched 14 kills, seven digs and two blocks in the setback for the Wildcats. Wentworth was led by Ross Burdett with 18 kills, four digs and three blocks while Collin Ritter had 51 set assists, four blocks and two digs in the win for the Leopards.
With the split JWU is now 12-9 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC while Wentworth improves to 17-7 and 6-2 in the league play. Emerson is now 8-10 on the year and 3-6 in the GNAC. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, March 25th when they host Anna Maria in a GNAC contest starting at 7:00 p.m.
