Box Score 2 The men's volleyball team split a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats posted a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-19) win over Wentworth in the opener and wrapped up the day with a 3-2 (25-13, 26-24, 24-26, 25, 15-17) setback against host Albertus Magnus.
In the victory against Wentworth sophomore Chris Espinola (Derry, N.H.) led the way for Johnson & Wales with nine kills, eight digs and two blocks while fellow sophomore Dan Tiner (Salem, N.H.) had eight kills and nine digs for the Wildcats. Freshman J.J. Bessette (Coventry, R.I.) tallied 28 set assists with two digs and two blocks in the win for the Wildcats.
Espinola tallied 14 kills, five digs and three blocks in the loss to host Albertus Magnus. Sophomore Dan Struebing (Coventry, R.I.) tallied 14 kills and eight blocks while Bessette notched a double-double with 47 set assists and 13 digs in the setback.
With the split Johnson & Wales wraps up the 2012 regular season with a 16-16 overall record and an 8-6 record in the GNAC. The third-seeded Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 10th when they host sixth-seed Emerson in the opening round of the GNAC playoffs, starting at 7:00 p.m.
