Box Score The men's volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory over Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Thursday evening. Johnson & Wales took a commanding 25-12 win in the opening set before Emerson knotted the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 victory in the second set. The Wildcats used a 25-19 win in set three to take the 2-1 advantage. JWU wrapped up the 3-1 win with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.
Johnson & Wales was led by sophomore Chris Espinola (Derry, N.H.) with 15 kills, six digs and three blocks while fellow sophomore Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) added 13 kills and two digs. Freshman J.J. Bessette (Coventry, R.I.) tallied 53 set assists with seven digs in the win for the Wildcats.
Junior Eric Doherty (Millis, Mass.) paced Emerson with eight kills and five digs while freshman Connor Burton (Valencia, Calif.) had eight digs, six digs and a service ace. Senior Stephen Selnick (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied 29 set assists, five digs and two kills in the loss for the Lions.
With the win Johnson & Wales evens their record at 15-15 on the season and 7-5 in the GNAC while Emerson falls to 9-13 overall and 4-8 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, April 7th when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC tri-match with Wentworth, starting at 1:00 p.m.
