Box Score The men's volleyball team opened the 2012 campaign with a 3-0 setback against seventh-ranked Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference at the Harborside Recreation Center on Wednesday evening.
Rivier posted a 25-21 win in the first game before taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 win in game two. The visiting Raiders wrapped up the victory with a 25-13 win in the third and final set.
Johnson & Wales was led by sophomore Dan Tiner (Salem, N.H.) with eight kills, four digs and two service aces while sophomore Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) had five kills and three service aces for the Wildcats. Freshman J.J. Bessette (Coventry, R.I.) notched 16 set assists in the setback.
Freshman Chris Markuson (Cupertino, Calif.) paced Rivier with 11 kills and five digs while junior Steve Visentin (Cheshire, Conn.) had 21 set assists, six digs and three blocks in the victory for the Raiders.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 0-1 for the season while Rivier improves to 1-0 on the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, January 31st when they host Lesley in non-conference contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.
