Box Score 2 The men's volleyball took a fourth place finish at the 2011 Vassar Invitational over the weekend. On Friday, the Wildcats lost to host Vassar by a score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-14) and wrapped up the day with a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-19) loss against Lasell. On Saturday, JWU suffered a 3-0 setback against Nazareth (25-20, 25-11, 25-14) to finish the tournament with an 0-3 record.
Freshman Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team for Johnson & Wales.
In the match against Vassar, Kennedy recorded eight kills and five digs while fellow rookie Gerard Daniels (Miami, Fla.) had 21 set assists and two blocks in the setback. Evan Frederickson led the way for Vassar with 10 kills and six digs while Clifford Quinn had 19 set assists in the victory.
Against Lasell, Kennedy and freshman Alex Viera (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each had eight kills while Daniels notched 20 set assists. Spencer Parker paced Lasell with 10 kills and nine digs for the Lasers in the win.
In the tournament finale against Nazareth, Viera notched 10 kills and nine digs while Daniels recorded 16 set assists. Billy Gimello tallied 16 kills to lead Nazareth to the win.
Johnson & Wales is now 5-7 for the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 23rd when they travel to Lasell for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 7:00 p.m.
