The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision against Rivier, currently ranked No. 8 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Wednesday evening. Rivier posted a 25-17 win in the first set and took control of the match with a 25-15 victory in set two. The Raiders then closed out the victory with a 25-19 score in the third and final set.
Johnson & Wales was led by freshman Alex Viera (Bay Shore, N.Y.) who recorded seven kills and three digs while freshman Gerard Daniels (Miami, Fla.) had 14 set assists and six digs in the setback. Senior Steven Velez (San Antonio, Texas) had 19 digs for the Wildcats.
Rivier freshman Sam Kazlas (Allentown, Pa.) had a match-high nine kills, three blocks and two digs while senior Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, R.I.) recorded eight kills and five digs. Sophomore Steve Visentin (Cheshire, Conn.) had 20 set assists in the victory for the Raiders.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 5-4 for the season and 2-3 in the GNAC while Rivier improves to 14-5 on the year, 4-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Friday, February 18th when they travel to the Vassar Invitational.
