Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales
University men's volleyball team fell to Lasell, 3-1 in a Great
Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation
Center on Wednesday evening.
Lasell took the opening game with a 30-24 victory and extended
their lead to 2-0 with a 30-25 win in the second game of the
evening. Johnson & Wales responded with a 30-26 win in game
three to make the score 2-1. The visiting Lasers then closed out
the evening with a 30-14 win in game four.
Sophomore Petar Yanikiev (Varna, Bulguria) led
the way for Johnson & Wales with 14 kills and six digs while
junior Eric
Minnich (Concord, Calif.) added 11 kills for the
Wildcats. Sophomore Robert
Slough (Buffalo, N.Y.) had 33 set assists and five
digs.
Sophomore Micah Aiu (Honolulu, Hawaii) paced
Lasell with 15 kills, seven digs and two blocks while sophomore
Brendan McGourn (Southington, Conn.) added 48 set
assists, eight digs and eight kills in the victory for the
Lasers.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 5-11 overall, 1-5 in
the GNAC while Lasell improves to 12-5 on the year, 7-2 in league
play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, February 27th
when they host travel to Albertus Magnus for a Great Northeast
Athletic Conference tri-match with Emerson, starting at 12:00
p.m.
