Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University
men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision against Emmanuel
in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside
Recreation Center on Monday evening. Emmanuel posted a 30-20 win in
game one, a 30-26 win in game two and wrapped up the sweep with a
30-23 victory in the third game.
Johnson & Wales was led by junior Eric Minnich (Concord,
Calif.) with 13 kills and four blocks while sophomore Petar
Yanikiev (Varna, Bulguria) with eight kills, six digs and two
service aces. Sophomore Robert Slough (Buffalo, N.Y.) had 26 set
assists in the setback.
Emmanuel junior Tyson Reitz (Granite Bay, Calif.) recorded 11
kills and six digs while junior Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo,
Calif.) added eight kills and two digs for the Saints. Freshman
Nick Updike (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) had set 25 assists and five
kills in the victory.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 4-7 for the year and 1-4
in the GNAC while Emmanuel improves to 10-4, 6-1 in league play.
The Wildcats will return to action this weekend when they travel to
the Vassar Tournament on Friday, February 19th, starting at 4:00
p.m.
