Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales
University men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision
against Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at
the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening. Rivier posted
a 30-24 win in game one, a 30-18 win in game two and wrapped up the
sweep with a 30-21 victory in the third game.
Johnson & Wales was led by sophomore Petar Yanikiev (Varna,
Bulguria) with 12 kills, seven digs and two service aces. Fellow
sophomore Tim Haley (West Warwick, R.I.) added nine kills and four
digs while sophomore Mark Garlock (East Greenwich, R.I.) had 23 set
assists and two blocks in the setback for the Wildcats.
Rivier was paced by junior Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, R.I.) with
seven kills and one dig while senior Matt Ferreira (North
Providence, R.I.) added six and three digs for the Raiders. Senior
Zach Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) had 21 set assists and two digs in the
victory.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 0-1 for the year while
Rivier improves to 3-0. The Wildcats will return to action this
weekend when they travel to the D'Youville tournament on
Saturday, January 23rd, starting at 12:00 p.m.
