Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wildcats open CNE play with 2-1 win at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine - First-year Mia Mangano scored a first-half goal for the JWU (Providence) women's soccer team in a 2-1 win at the University of New England Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action.

Mangano scored in the eighth minute off an assist from senior Brynn Leahy to give the Wildcats (2-3-0, 1-0-0 CNE) a lead they would not relinquish. Mangano then set up a play which led to an own goal in the 26th minute to make it 2-0.

The Nor'easters (2-2-1) were able to stay close behind their defense and eventually cut their deficit in half when Lexy Brodeur found the back of the next in the 66th minute.

UNE was unable to tie the match as the Wildcats allowed just three shots on goal in the first league match of the season for both schools.

Mangano finished with a goal, an assist and two shots in a contest that saw JWU outshot 11-9. Senior Ava Vaughan made two saves to earn her second win of 2026.

The Wildcats return to the pitch Wednesday at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
