Wildcats rebound from loss to Capital to defeat Chatham

CLERMONT, Fla. – The JWU (Providence) softball team rebounded from a loss to Capital University to defeat Chatham University in eight innings Monday in non-conference action at The Spring Games in Florida.

Comets 13, Wildcats 3 (6 inn.)
Sophomore Morgan Pelletier smashed her first home run of the season – a two-run shot in the fifth – and senior Mady Lyons plated a run in the third for the Wildcats, who fell behind 4-0 after one and later allowed five in the top of the sixth. Lyons, along with senior Olivia Mason and junior Macy Pagano, all finished with two hits. First-year Ciara Murray surrendered eight hits and seven runs (five earned) over three in defeat.

Wildcats 5, Cougars 3 (8 inn.)
Senior Jadyn Torres and junior Jessica Forneiro drove in runs in the eighth to propel the Wildcats to their first win of the season. Lyons finished the contest 3-for-4 and Pagano laced two more hits for JWU, which tied the game at three to force extras with an RBI groundout off the bat of first-year Hailey Cardiello in the third. Senior Jillian Reed allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) with two walks and four punchouts to notch the win.
