Colonels hold off Wildcats on Senior Day, 75-68

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) men's basketball was defeated by Curry College 75-68 in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Center.

Prior to the start of the contest, graduate students Dylan Hooter and Silas Sawtelle were honored for their contributions to the program. Silas finished with 12 points and four boards while Hooter registered four points, three rebounds and a pair of steals.

Sophomore Azariah Harrison paced JWU (3-20-, 2-12 CNE) with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Junior and reigning CNE Player of the Week Alvin Baez went for 16 points and six rebounds while freshman Omar Grullon came off the bench to score 15 points in 29 minutes of action.

The Colonels (6-17, 2-12 CNE) shot 51 percent and canned 20-of-24 from the charity stripe. The visitors held a slim 32-29 edge on the glass and made nine of their 12 attempts from downtown (75 pct.).

Baez and Grullon each scored eight first-half points as the Colonels led by three at the break (34-31). The Wildcats opened up a five-point lead at 53-48 midway through the second before the Colonels ripped off a 10-0 run to grab a five-point lead of their own at 58-53.

A layup from Harrison with 2:39 remaining put JWU up by one (64-63). Nathaniel Clemente knocked down two free throws at the other end to put Curry in front for good.
