Bergeron nets first two collegiate goals in 6-1 win over Nichols

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Sophomore Grace Adams and freshman Ashley Bergeron each scored twice for the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team in a 6-1 win over Nichols College Friday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Lynch Arena.

Sophomore Kailin Kane chipped in with a goal and an assist as the Wildcats climbed over the .500 mark at 11-10-1 (8-7-1 CNE) and moved one step closer to securing a home playoff game in the conference tournament, which begins February 25.

Senior captain Kylie O'Keefe also scored as nine different Wildcats found their way onto the scoresheet, including junior Sadie Davignon (1A), sophomores Teagan Garfield (1A), Jordan Hopping (1A), and Ava Morgan (1A), and freshman Annalise MacPhee (1A).

The Wildcats struck for three goals in the opening period – including two in a span of 1:08 – to take a 3-1 lead to the locker room. Bergeron scored the first two at 5:22 and 17:33 before Adams potted her sixth at 18:41.

After the Bison (6-17-0, 3-13-0 CNE) got one back in the second, the Wildcats scored a pair with the net empty for an extra attacker at 12:54 and 13:27 of the third. Adams second of the night at 15:12 closed the scoring.

JWU was outshot 32-25 and saw freshman netminder Avery Hall turn aside 31 shots to record her third win of the season.
