PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) field hockey team was defeated by Western New England University 2-1 in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday afternoon on Homecoming Weekend at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Sophomore
Izzy Paes scored her fourth goal of the season for the Wildcats (6-3, 1-3 CNE), who outshot the Golden Bears 18-13 and held a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners.
Senior
Emily Downing – who closed the day with six shots (three on goal) – set up Paes goal at 18:49 to stake JWU to a 1-0 lead. WNE responded with a pair of goals off the stick of Mikayla Mrzywka – one late in the second and another in the third – to move in front by one.
The Wildcats poured it on in the fourth, outshooting the Golden Bears 7-1 over the final 15 minutes while earning five penalty corners.
