Brea turns aside 16 shots in one-goal loss to Roger Williams

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) field hockey team suffered a 2-1 setback at the hands of Roger Williams University Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

First-year Lucy Verderber scored her second goal of the season for the Wildcats (9-6, 3-4 CNE), who close the regular season with a home contest against WestConn on Wednesday.

Junior Ava Gaudette and senior Ava Pontes collected assists on the JWU goal, which came off a penalty corner started by senior Emily Downing and cut its deficit in half 4:19 into the second half.

The Hawks (13-5, 5-1) opened the scoring late in the first half on a goal from Emma Sheldon before Eva Wood's 13th tally of 2026 doubled the lead early in the third. The visitors finished the day with a 30-3 edge in shots.
