PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomores
Grace Jaffray and
Isabella Suero combined for 41 points in a 64-52 win for the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team over the University of New England Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Wildcat Center.
Jaffray scored 13 of her game-high 21 in the second half while Suero finished with four 3-pointers and 20 points (6-of-6 FT). With the win, the Wildcats improved to 12-4 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
The Wildcats held the Nor'easters (6-9, 4-2 CNE) to just 14 points on 11 percent shooting (3-of-28) in the opening half en route to a 31-14 halftime lead. Suero knocked down three triples in the opening 20 minutes while Jaffray chipped in with eight and sophomore
Brianne Foley score five.
JWU extended its lead to 20 points (51-31) after three and finished the afternoon with a slim 42-41 edge on the glass. The Wildcats managed to overcome 20 turnovers and an uneven fourth quarter which saw the Nor'easters outscore the home team 21-13.
Foley closed the game with seven points while senior
Mikayla Caruso filled the stat sheet with six points, six boards and three blocks. Sophomore
Mya Jiminez came off the bench to record six points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes. JWU shot 39 percent from the field (21-of-54).
