Saints spoil Wildcats bid for three-peat

BOSTON, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse program saw its bid to capture a third-consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship come up short in a 15-12 loss to top-seeded Emmanuel (MA) College Saturday morning at Clemente Field.

Senior Madeleine Gould paced the Wildcats (13-5) with four goals and an assist while classmate Isabella Nugent picked up three goals and a pair of helpers. Freshman Kelsey Higgins scored twice and senior Neely Connor filled the stat sheet with two goals, 10 draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

JWU trailed by one after one (5-4) before two goals from Gould and one from junior Mila Kuilan put the visitors in front, 7-5. After the Saints pulled to within one at halftime, they outscored the Wildcats 5-2 in the third to grab an 11-9 lead.

Higgins opened the fourth with two goals in a span of :50 to tie the game at 11 with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation. The Saints ripped off the next four goals to move ahead by four with two minutes to go.

Senior goalie Emma Glyman scored her career with an eight-save performance as JWU was outshot by a slim 26-24 margin. Emmanuel held a 21-9 edge in ground balls.
