Women's Lacrosse moves onto GNAC Semifinals with 9-8 win over Chargers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Madeleine Gould scored four goals for the JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse team in a 9-8 win over Colby-Sawyer College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Classmate Neely Connor added a pair and senior Emma Glyman recorded 11 saves as the Wildcats (12-4) advanced to face No. 3 seed Norwich on Wednesday at the SMAC. Senior Isabella Nugent notched a goal and an assist to go with seven ground balls while Connor won eight draw controls.

JWU led 2-1 after one behind goals from Gould and Nugent. The Chargers (11-7) scored the next three to pull ahead by one before Gould tallied with 37 seconds remaining in the first half to send the game into the break deadlocked at four.

The Wildcats moved in front 7-5 midway through the third on goals from Connor and Gould 2:17 apart, but the visitors knotted the game at seven at 14:25 of the fourth. Conner netted what proved to be the game-winner at 10:27, followed by Gould's 66th tally of the season with 3:45 to go in regulation.

The Chargers made it a one-goal game with a goal with 1:31 on the clock and had one final chance to tie at the horn, however Glyman denied the scoring attempt to secure the win. JWU was out 22-21 in a defensive battle which featured 43 turnovers.
