Softball opens season with losses to Dubuque, Clark (MA)

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The JWU (Providence) softball team opened it season with losses to Dubuque and Clark (MA) Sunday at The Spring Games in Florida.

Spartans 6, Wildcats 4
Junior Mady Lyons, sophomore Chloe Brunelle, and freshman Harper Ellis each picked up two hits and junior Jadyn Torres drove in two runs for JWU with a single in the second. Junior Emma Schweitzer also drove in a run in the third to temporarily give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead. Senior Katie Scheid allowed seven hits and five runs to go with four walks and five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work in the circle.

Cougars 7, Wildcats 0
Seniors Mackenzie Clee and Caroline Amorelli, along with sophomore Macy Pagano and Jessica Forneiro, each recorded a hit. The Cougars pushed across two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the seventh. Clee got the start for JWU and surrendered five hits and four runs, walked five, and struck out three in 4.0 innings.
