PROVIDENCE, R.I. – JWU (Providence) freshman Brayden Soleau has been named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week.

The top-seeded 285 lb. wrestler, Soleau went a perfect 4–0 at the Scott Viera Open at Roger Williams University on December 13, collecting three pins and one medical forfeit with no bout reaching the second period.

The Niantic, Connecticut native began the day with an impressive 7-0 win over Takuma Steinburger (Maine Maritime) before wins over Matt Donis (3-0) of Western New England and Thomas Lunt (forfeit) of John Carroll sent him to the finals.

Soleau capped off his run with a pin in just 2:43 over Brandon Lavasta of NEC in the finals. The standout showing improved Soleau's season record to 15–4, including six victories by pinfall.

The Wildcats return to action at the National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa on January 9.
