Wilson, Marinez, Nicholson shine at USM Alumni Open

GORHAM, Maine – Graduate student Aliyah Wilson placed first in both the long jump and the 55m dash for the JWU (Providence) women's indoor track & field team Saturday at the USM Alumni Open on the campus of the University of Southern Maine.

Wilson completed the 55m dash in 7.32 seconds and posted a jump of 5.54m in the long jump. Second-place finishers included junior Lena Nicholson in the weight throw (14.48m) and junior Ayevah Marinez in the 300m dash (43.76). Marinez also placed fifth in the 200m dash (27.96).

Junior Olivia Weldin took third in the high jump (1.42m) and ninth in the long jump (4.65m). Classmate Samantha Miller claimed third in the pole vault (2.50m) while senior Avery Goshert placed third in the 5000m run (19:47.72).

Other top finishers for the Wildcats included:
  • Freshman Rhiana Thomas placed fourth in the weight throw (13.67m) and seventh in the shot put (10.58m)
  • Junior Valenah Mahabal placed fourth in the high jump (1.42m)
  • Freshman Josie Spaulding was fourth in the 5000m run (20:03.25)
  • Senior Katelyn O'Brien finished fifth in the shot put (10.97m) and sixth in the long jump (4.76m)
  • Junior Riley Veits finished fifth in the pole vault (2.35m)
  • Junior Erika Sanders claimed eighth in the weight throw (12.47m)
  • Freshman Corin Clougherty took eighth in the shot put (10.48m)
