Joe Freeman scored goals for the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team in a 3-2 loss to No. 5 University of New England Friday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Lynch Arena.
Sophomore
Maxim Zinchenko turned aside 38 shots between the pipes for the Wildcats, who fell to 3-3-1 with the setback (1-3-0 CNE). The Nor'easters were the beneficiary of three JWU penalties in the second and converted on two of them to improve to 6-0-0 (5-0-0 CNE).
UNE scored the only goal of the first at 16:12 to take a 1-0 lead. Bone knocked in a rebound off a shot from senior
Cam Martin at 7:32 of the second to tie the game at one before a pair of Nor'easter PP goals in a span of 1:11 gave the visitors a two-goal edge after 40 minutes of play.
Freeman brought the Wildcats to within one just 2:20 into the third with his first of the season. Martin and Bone were credited with assists on the goal. JWU outshot UNE 10-7 in the third but could not tie the game.
The Nor'easters finished the night 3-for-6 with the man advantage while the Wildcats were 0-for-2. JWU blocked 30 shots, led by Bone with six and freshmen
Brad Guden and
Patrick Poirier with four each.
