Jaffray leads Wildcats to first-ever CNE win at WNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Grace Jaffrey netted 38 points to help lead the JWU (Providence) women's basketball team to its first-ever Conference of New England (CNE) win, a 72-64 triumph at Western New England University Wednesday night at Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Jaffrey connected on 14-of-22 attempts from the field – including 4-of-9 from downtown – and also snared eight boards in 34 minutes of action as the Wildcats improved to 3-1 on the season (1-0 CNE). Classmate and reigning CNE Player of the Week Brianne Foley also canned four triples and finished with 20 points, seven boards and three steals.

JWU held a 10-point halftime lead (37-27) behind 21 from Jaffray and seven from Foley. The team shot 41 percent through the opening 20 minutes, held an 18-16 edge on the glass, and forced nine turnovers.

Jaffray canned a triple with 3:11 remaining in the third to help the Wildcats open up a 14-point lead at 51-37. JWU pushed its lead to as many as 15 following a putback from Foley late in the fourth.

WNE finished with a slim 39-38 rebounding advantage but saw the visitors turn its 15 turnovers into 15 points. Senior Mikayla Caruso pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds for the Wildcats.
