PROVIDENCE, R.I. – JWU (Providence) freshman Nico Rivera has been named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week.

The Providence, Rhode Island native went 4-0 at the Roger Williams Invitational this past weekend to win the 125 lb. bracket. After winning his first two matches by fall and tech fall, respectfully, Rivera defeated nationally-ranked No. 15 Nikko Beato (Coast Guard) with a late takedown in the semis, 4-1.

In the finals, Rivera knocked off regionally-ranked No. 5 Chris Hong from Wesleyan (CT).

The defending national champions host VTSU-Castleton, Stevens, Coast Guard, and West Liberty on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the Wildcat Center.
