Women's lacrosse advances to GNAC Championship with 15-8 win over Monks

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Katie Sloan and junior Madeleine Gould each scored four goals for the JWU (Providence) women's lacrosse team in a 15-8 win over St. Joseph's (ME) Tuesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinal action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Senior Maris DiBeneditto added four assists for the Wildcats (14-4), who outscored the Monks 6-0 in the fourth quarter to advance to the conference championship game for the eighth-consecutive season. JWU is seeking the sixth GNAC Championship in program history (2017-19, 2021, 2023).

The Wildcats fell behind 2-0 less than four minutes into the contest before scoring five of the next six goals to move in front 5-3 after one. Goals from Sloan, Gould, and junior Neely Connor in the second helped extend the lead to three at halftime (8-5).

In the third, the Monks tightened up defensively and closed to within one at 9-8 with 3:24 on the clock. The visitors went scoreless over the final 18:36 of the contest as two each from Gould and Sloan in the fourth solidified the win.

Gould and junior Isabella Nugent combined to win 11 draw controls while Sloan paced the defense with three caused turnovers. Junior Emma Glyman recorded nine saves to earn her 14th win of the season. Connor, meanwhile, finished with four ground balls, giving her 77 on the season and moving her past Taina Gamory (2022-23) for first-place on the single-season ground balls list with 77.
